No Secrets, Full Transparency

The Process

  • Step 1 – The Application

You kick everything off right from your phone or laptop.

Fill out the online application based on Virginia DMV Document (VSA-14) with your basic info and vehicle details

Choose your 1-, 2-, or 3-year registration option

Let us know if you’re interested in expedited service or shipping to your address

Once you hit submit, your information comes straight to our team—no printing, no DMV lines.

  • Step 2 – Document Verification

Next, you’ll upload clear photos or scans of the required documents (ID, title/bill of sale, insurance, proof of address, etc.).

What we do on our side:

We personally review your documents for accuracy and completeness

If anything is missing, hard to read, or doesn’t match, we reach out to you directly

We’ll tell you exactly what’s needed so you’re not guessing

We don’t move forward until your file looks clean. That protects your time and helps keep our success rate high.

  • Step 3 – The DMV Work

Once everything checks out and your application is ready:

We prepare your file and take the required documentation to Virginia DMV channels

Our team handles the in-person side—you don’t have to travel or stand in line

The DMV reviews and processes the registration in line with state rules

We keep things as fast and accurate as possible, but we’re always honest:

Final approval is up to the DMV, not us. Our job is to make sure your file is strong, clean, and ready.

  • Step 4 – Plates Come to You

After your plates and registration are issued:

A transporter can bring the plates directly to you, or

We can ship them to your address if delivery isn’t convenient

You’ll get updates so you’re not left wondering where things stand—we want you to feel informed, not in the dark.

  • We move your file forward as quickly as we reasonably can

    Speed

  • We’d rather pause and fix something than rush and have it rejected

    Accuracy

  • We tell you what stage you’re in, what we’re doing, and what we still need from you.

    Transparency

  • We don’t promise magic or shortcuts—just a clear process, real communication, and a serious effort to get your plates done right.

That’s who we are at Island Auto Group

FAQs

We aim to be as transparent as possible: we provide a faster and more flexible registration option, but it’s still your responsibility to stay legal and informed as a driver

  • Island Wide Auto Group is a car dealership that also assists with DMV services. We specialize in helping drivers switch their current state plates to Virginia plates through a streamlined process. Our clients like this option because:

    • They don’t have to bring the car to Virginia for inspection as part of our process

    • It can help them avoid some common NYC headaches like constant pull-overs, very high insurance rates, and long DMV waits

    • We work to move files quickly, with plates often able to be issued on a very short timeline when everything lines up

Although we work closely with NYC drivers, our services are available to drivers nationwide.

  • No. You do not have to drive the car to Virginia as part of this service. The vehicle stays with you.

    We handle:

    • The paperwork

    • The DMV side in Virginia

    • Coordination with our transporters, who move plates and documents back and forth

Once plates are ready, they are brought back to New York (or shipped to you) so you can stay on the road and keep working.

  • No. This is very important to understand:

    • Any existing tickets, judgments, or suspensions with New York (or any other state) do not disappear because you switch plates

    • You are still legally responsible for those obligations

    • We do not provide legal advice, and we do not “fix” or remove suspensions or fines

What we offer is an alternative registration path where allowed by law—not a way to erase past issues.

  • Our process is built around Virginia registration rules and DMV procedures. To stay compliant, you must:

    • Provide truthful, accurate information on your application

    • Keep valid insurance at all times

    • Follow all driving and registration laws in the state(s) where you operate the vehicle

Most clients keep their existing state driver’s license (for example, a New York license) while running Virginia plates. For any special situations or legal questions, we always recommend checking directly with the DMV or speaking with an attorney.

  • To review and process your file, we typically need clear photos or scans of:

    • Current registration – even if it’s expired

    • Bill of sale or proof of ownership (or title, if available)

    • Front and back of your driver’s license or ID card

    • Proof of insurance for the vehicle

    • Proof of address (for example, a utility bill, bank statement, or lease)

We may request additional documents depending on your situation, but these are the core items most clients need. Having them ready speeds things up.

  • Plates can sometimes be issued as soon as the next day once:

    • Your documents are complete and approved, and

    • Our transporter schedule lines up with DMV processing in Virginia

Because we rely on DMV timing and transporter trips back and forth between Virginia and New York, we can’t promise a specific date for every case—but we are very focused on speed and accurate preparation to keep things moving.

  • You are responsible for handling your old plates according to your previous state’s rules. That often means:

    • Surrendering the plates to the DMV, or

    • Following their instructions for turning them in or reporting them as destroyed

We can explain this at a high level, but each state has its own rules, so you should always check with your prior DMV to avoid extra fees or penalties.

  • Any time you change registration states, you should consider:

    • Whether your insurance company is fully aware of how and where the vehicle is used

    • Your responsibility to follow all laws in the places you drive, including traffic, insurance, and registration rules

    • Any existing open issues (tickets, tolls, suspensions, etc.), which remain your responsibility
